Tariff Note
Last update: 1 August 2025
As of right now, United States Customs and Border Patrol is billing us 10% for every Playdate we receive at our warehouse in North Las Vegas, Nevada, because Playdate is manufactured in Malaysia.
Our margin on Playdate is already quite low. Manufacturing low-volume electronics as a small company is more expensive than you can probably imagine, especially when using very high-end materials like solid stainless steel, glass, and a very unique high-resolution screen. As a result, we can’t afford to “absorb” this tariff, and it’s now being added to our checkout subtotal, like any other American tax.
(On the bright side, Playdate would cost way, way more if it were manufactured in the United States — assuming anyone would manufacture it at all, including all of the specialized sub-companies that make individual parts for Playdate, like that stainless steel crank — so, relatively speaking, it’s a small price to pay.)
As the tariff situation inevitably changes every few weeks or minutes or so, we will continually update this page and the percentage, as needed.
Just so you know: we hate this. We know money is tight for everyone. We thank you for your patience and your kind understanding. Our deepest dream is that we can delete this line item, and this page, someday soon.
