When to use Recovery

If your Playdate becomes unusable, it may need to be booted into Recovery mode. This situation should be rare, but it may happen due to a failed system update.

Recovery is a mode where the Playdate boots into a stable copy of the system software. You can then attempt a system update again, or perform a factory reset.

How to boot into recovery

Certain error messages may offer booting into recovery mode as an option. Follow the onscreen prompts to do this.

Otherwise, to start the process manually, you can use this button combination:

🅐 + 🅑 + Menu + Lock.
